** PLEASE NOTE THAT DUE TO THE LATEST GOVERNMENT ADVICE THE MUSEUM WILL HAVE TO CLOSE FROM THURSDAY 5TH OF NOVEMBER UNTIL AT LEAST THE 2ND OF DECEMBER 2020 **

Welcome to the website of the Whitworth Historical Society. The society is located at the Whitworth Heritage Museum on North Street, Whitworth, which is in the borough of Rossendale in East Lancashire. The museum had been opening to the public from 11am to 4pm on Saturdays but due to the latest Coronavirus restrictions we will be closed from Thursday 5th of November until at least the 2nd of December 2020. More information about any reopening will be given here as and when we are once again able to resume our services. The society normally operates a very popular programme of monthly lectures, and these are normally held on the first Wednesday of each month between the months of September and June, but unfortunately the programme has had to be suspended until at least 2021.

We are always happy to hear from anyone with any artifacts or photographs relating to Whitworth, which we might be able to add to our collection or make copies of, but due to lack of storage space we can't usually take items that don't have any sort of link with the area. If you have anything you might like to donate or loan please do get in touch with us, we'd love to hear from you. You can find out how to contact us via our 'contact us' page.
